Frequent questions

I began my journey into design as an aspiring video game designer at the Art Institute. However, my focus quickly shifted as I gained more perspective on the industry. I developed an interest in graphic arts and started freelancing, working with numerous startups on branding and print graphics. My fascination grew as I explored how graphical elements could be transformed from print into digital experiences. Teaching myself to code and design websites deepened my passion, leading me to focus on understanding users and creating user-friendly experiences. The rest is history!
First, I like to understand the problem by talking to stakeholders to identify their goals. Then, I conduct user interviews to understand their needs, motivations, and pain points. Once I have a game plan, I create sketches or low-fidelity designs to communicate with stakeholders. Next, I move into high-fidelity designs and present them to users for testing, making iterations based on their feedback. Once iteration are approved, I hand off the necessary assets. The testing and iteration cycle usually continues if the budget allows.
I believe it's essential to start by explaining the story behind why you're undertaking a project. Next, discuss the problem using metrics and data, then outline what you did or plan to do to solve it, incorporating visuals such as sketches, mockups, or prototypes. Finally, use simplified language instead of design jargon to engage the audience effectively.
When approaching any design, I start with the user. Who are they, and what do we want them to accomplish? If it's an existing application, I consider the problems they are experiencing. Answering these questions through design is what makes for a great user experience.
With so many innovative and exciting ways for users to experience digital spaces, we're no longer limited to clicking a mouse. I'm excited to see how far vocal experiences have come. I believe that the more natural and relatable these experiences are, the more immersive the user experience can be.
